Ett videoverk och en dialog som behandlar ”Black Social Death” som ett strukturellt fenomen och ifrågasätter begreppet ”människan” som norm genom film, dialog och reflektion.
Programmet inleds med ett samtal som närmar sig ”Black Social Death” som en strukturell problematik, därefter visas videoverket Even Love and Death is Headquartered (7:14). Genom film, dialog och reflektion problematiseras föreställningen om Människan som norm. Medverkande är konstnären Fey Tewedros och arkitekten och forskaren Marie-Louise Richards.
Fey Tewedros arbetar med video, ruiner och texter som ackumuleras och rör sig in och ut ur verket utan att avslöja vad som förenar dem, vilket sätter relationen i gungning. Samlingarna kolliderar i mötet med den svarta närvaron utan att fastna i någon sammanhängande helhet. Disjunktionen träder fram när historierna pressas mot varandra, vilket lyfter fram närheten snarare än avslutningen.
Gäst: Marie-Louise Richards är arkitekt, lektor och forskare, och leder den experimentella kursen Reconstructions vid institutionen för forskning och vidareutbildning i arkitektur och fri konst vid Kungliga Konsthögskolan i Stockholm. Hennes arbete utforskar ”black feminist spatial futures” som kroppslig erfarenhet, kritisk strategi och rumslig kategori genom metoder inom arkitektonisk och konstnärlig forskning, curatoriell praktik och skrivande.
Om utställningen
Göteborgs Konsthall har samarbetat med konsthögskolan HDK-Valand sedan 1925, då de första avgångsstudenterna ställde ut på Götaplatsen. I år, när konsthallen inväntar sina nya lokaler i Slakhusområdet, kretsar samarbetet i stället kring en programserie som tar formen av panelsamtal, filmvisningar och ljudupplevelser. Tillsammans med inbjudna gäster fördjupar vi oss i frågeställningar kring tid och perception, kroppspolitik, konstnärliga strategier för motstånd och synliggörande av konflikter.
Programpunkterna tar spjärn i studenternas verk i examensutställningen A Temporary Constellation. Både utställningen och programpunkterna genomförs i konsthögskolans egna lokaler.

A video work and dialogue approaching Black Social Death as structural, troubling the terms of the Human as normative through film, dialogue and reflection.
The screening of Even Love and Death is Headquartered (7:14) will open with a dialogue featuring video artist and writer Fey Tewedros and architect and researcher Marie-Louise Richards.
Fey Tewedros works with video, ruins, and texts that accumulate and move in and out of the work without resolving what gathers them together, placing the breakdown of relation. Collections collide in engagement with Black presence without being fixed into coherence. Disjunction speaks as histories press onto one another, foregrounding adjacency rather than closure.
Guest: Marie-Louise Richards is an architect, lecturer, and researcher, and leads the experimental course Reconstructions, in the Department for Research and Further Education in Architecture and Fine Art at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Her work explores ‘black feminist spatial futures’ as embodiment, critical strategy and spatial category through methods of architectural and artistic research, curatorial practice and writing.
About the exhibition
Göteborgs Konsthall has collaborated with the art academy HDK-Valand since 1925, when the first graduating students exhibited at Götaplatsen. This year, as Göteborgs Konsthall awaits a new building in Slakthusområdet, the collaboration instead revolves around a series of public events including panel discussions, film screenings and listening sessions. Together with invited guests, we explore ideas of time and perception, body politics, artistic strategies of dissidence and representation of conflict.
The series of public events draw on the students’ works in the graduation show A Temporary Constellation. Both the exhibition and the program series are held at HDK-Valand’s premises.
