Afterwork: Att vara asiat i Sverige utforskar erfarenheten av att vara asiat i Sverige, ett underrepresenterat perspektiv i den svenska debatten. Samtalet utgår ifrån Tobias Hübinettes forskning om postkoloniala studier och kritisk rasteori och kopplas samman med konstnären Marie Bergqvists konstnärliga praktiker. I en kritisk granskning och utvidgning av posthumanistiska (mer-än-människa) perspektiv, uppmärksammas de bestående effekterna av kolonialism samt komplexiteten av den asiatiska erfarenheten i en svensk kontext.

Medverkande
Tobias Hübinette är fil dr i koreanologi (koreaforskning eller Korean Studies), docent i interkulturell pedagogik samt lektor i interkulturella studier vid Institutionen för språk, litteratur och interkultur vid Karlstads universitet.
Marie Bergqvist, med rötter i Göteborgs indiescen och skrivstudier, remixar text, röst och musik samtidigt som hon utforskar transrasial adoption och 1865 års valkalvsuppstoppning med Göteborgs naturhistoriska museum.

Afterwork: On Being Swedish Asian explores the experience of being Asian in Sweden, an underrepresented perspective in the Swedish debate. The conversation draws on Tobias Hübinette’s research on postcolonial studies and critical race theory and connects with the artistic practices of artist Marie Bergqvist. In a critical examination and expansion of posthumanist (more-than-human) perspectives, the enduring effects of colonialism and the complexities of being Asian in a Swedish context are highlighted.

Participants
Tobias Hübinette (Korean name: Lee Sam-dol) has a Ph.D. in Korean Studies, is a Reader in Intercultural Education and a Senior Lecturer in Intercultural Studies at the Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies at Karlstad University.
Fine arts graduate Marie Bergqvist, rooted in Gothenburg’s indie scene and writing studies, remixes text, voice, and music while exploring transracial adoption and the 1865 whale calf’s taxidermy with the Gothenburg Natural History Museum.
