The text work The Institution by Ismaila Jallow and Afroinstitutionen rhythmically and repetitively asks: “What is an institution?”  The answers that follow consider various perspectives on the existence of institutions and their requirements, both socially and psychologically.

The text raises critical questions, scrutinising the institution and the institutional gap between purpose and action. The text was written in solidarity with Katrine Dirckinck Holmfeld, who lost her job at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in 2020, after throwing a bust in the water to trigger a debate about the institution’s colonial heritage.
