Welcome to Utrymning (departure) – A Grand Farewell as we leave Götaplatsen! Join us for a day of performances, sounds and poetry by invited artists and musicians.
After more than one hundred years at Götaplatsen in the city centre, as we relocate to a new building in Gamlestaden, the old konsthall itself takes center stage. Without art objects, the space and acoustics of the galleries become a site for relations and interactions.
The audience becomes the focal point for the performances and fictions, imaginations and realities, appearances and disappearances, generated by this art machine over the years. Hospitality as well as ephemera also emerge as integral parts of the institution, as tangible as the limestone floor with its ancient fossils.
In the place between vacating and relocating, between Götaplatsen and Gamlestaden, a view may arise of Göteborgs Konsthall as an element of the past and part of an exciting future in a new building.
Welcome to Göteborg Konsthall’s farewell event of performances, music and poetry.
Participants:
Stefan Tcherepnin, composer and artist, will perform a series of musical séances and sonic rituals for the gallery spaces.
Josefina Björk, artist, will create site-specific memory monuments together with a dancer, a painter, and the audience.
Amina Hocine, muscician and composer, crafts sound crystals with her self-designed foghorn organ, which visitors can explore through movement.
Cara Tolmie, artist and performer, explores the acute sensitivity of voice and body in the place through breathing, improvisation, and vocal imaginaries.
BAM (Burcu Sahin, Athena Farrokhzad, Merima Dizdarević), poets, perform a carnivalesque response to the political agreement “Tidöavtalet”.
At the end of the day, musicians from Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra explore the space’s acoustics with grandiose avant-garde sounds.
As a crescendo, performance artist and musician Stina Fors conducts an expulsion ritual with drums during the evening’s final hour.
The poster for Utrymning (Evacuation), created by Longest Night (Anna Ehrlemark, Mileta Mijatović), will be distributed for free.
