Ingela Ihrman (b. 1985) is a Stockholm-based artist who explores what it means to live through sculpture, performance, video, and text.
Through sculptural costumes, Ihrman quite literally takes on the form of other living beings while exploring the possibilities and limitations of her own body. Her works challenge the ways we categorize and exploit nature—of which we ourselves are a part—while at the same time nostalgically idealizing it as something untouched and original.
With both humor and seriousness, she approaches questions of identity and belonging by studying other life forms and our relationships with them. Her art portrays the intense emotions of everyday life—desire, lust, longing, and loneliness.
Ihrman was educated at Konstfack, and her works were recently featured in the acclaimed exhibition Frutti di Mare at Malmö Konsthall (2023).
